About

Hi! I'm Meaghan, founder of 'The Botanist'. My original roots come from the beauty industry. For over 20 years I've had the privilege of connecting with people through the art of hair. In recent years I have delved into improving my lifestyle to be more healthful. I finally started to keep plants alive indoors and started gardening and growing microgreens around the same time. Plants brought life to my space and caring for them for me was very therapeutic, not to mention the proven health benefits of being around nature (I brought the jungle inside). Learning how to grow my own food connected me on a whole new level, not to mention the appreciation I gained for farmers and having grocery stores when my crops failed. To me plants are everything, they liven up spaces, they clean our air, they store carbon, they are our food. My goal is to help people learn about how they can use plants to amplify their lives, grow community and learn how we can together work on sustainability in a modern world for a better future.

Connect, create and cultivate.

Bouquets By The Botanist

MEANINGFUL FLOWERS, MADE WITH INTENTION

Flowers have been used for centuries to celebrate life, love, loss, and all the things in between.  We make flowers that are different, special and unique. When it comes to making flowers we care about each occasion and that energy flows through to our work. Not only do we care about people, we care about the planet. We strive for sustainability in a not so green industry by having certain ethos and practices when it comes to our operations.

Having fresh flowers is important for them to last a long time in your home, flower vase life will range from 3 days to 3 weeks depending on the flowers, some can even be dried to enjoy your bouquet for years to come. Given Calgary's cold climate we use imported flowers when needed, our suppliers procure product from farms that are ethically sourced for both people and planet. In season we use 100% Alberta and Canadian grown materials to make the most of our short season, in 2024 we even started a small farm where we grow our own flowers, edible flowers, herbs and produce.

As we flow through the season so do flowers. If you are looking for whimsical, wild and out of the ordinary flowers you have come to the right place. Shop the collection here.

Repotting Services

LET US TO THE DIRTY WORK!

You may have lack of knowledge, skill, time or just don't want to deal with dirt in your home. We offer in-store potting services for all your plant babies.

Our prices range from $1-3 dollars per inch of soil. There is a range because some plants require more work to repot then others. For example a plant that is extremely root bound and compacted takes extra time and attention to untangle the roots safely.

Prices

$1-3    Soil per inch of pot diameter.

For example a 4" replant can cost $4-12. Why the range? Well some peoples plants come in a state after not being repotted for years. It takes a very long time to tangle the roots together to do our best to prevent transplant shock. Some plants are very straightforward so you will get the base price for these plants. All of our plants are potted with our in aroid, thirsty plant mix (both made in house) or cactus mix. We can do even more custom mixes for things like fruit trees, bonsais and more with special requests.

$7        Per vial Houseplant invigorator

$6        Soil Activator  ( helps with transplant shock)

$.50 - $12 Plastic Nursery Pot

$31-$195 Ceramic Peach & Pebble Pot (Doesn't include saucer)

$10-$123 Hybrid Resin Kanso Pots

$2-$22 Terracotta pot (Doesn't include saucer)

BYOP Bring your own pot. Have your own pot then bring it in with you!

We have a variety of pots that can be used to plant directly into with drainage holes in saucers including terracotta, ceramic and hybrid resins. We typically recommend to plant into a plastic nursery pot and place this into a the cover pots, but that's not always an option. When possible we will reuse plastic nursery pots at no extra charge. If we do not have one available from our reuse stock one will be charged.

**DISCLAIMER PLEASE NOTE THE FOLLOWING**

  1. We are not in any way responsible for your plants, if your plant starts to decline for whatever reason after repotting there are no claims or refunds we are not responsible  or liable for their health afterwards plants can go through whats called transplant shock. We do our absolute best to avoid. We do not guarantee any plants after repotting you are knowingly accepting this risk when you have us repot your plants. Generally healthy plants are not affected by this, plants that are long overdue for repotting are the most susceptible to it
  2.  We do not repot bonsai.
  3. Pots sometimes may break when trying to get old plants out or need to be cut out of their existing planters. We are not responsible for any broken pots.
  4. If you are bringing plants in winter months know that if it is below 0 degrees it is absolutely necessary to protect you plants from the cold air. Pickier plants like ficus we recommend to wrap under 10 degrees. The leaves can die from cold exposure in a mere matter of seconds.
  5.  Having us repot your plants knows you are aware of the risks of repotting plants and accept these in full. We are not held responsible for any issues that may arise post repotting. All services are final sale.
